My name is Brett Hudson. I am a resident of North Carolina and a student in Wake Technical Community College's Associate in Engineering program. My passion is in sustainable energy infrastructure and human habitat. I am currently pursuing a degree in Nuclear Engineering and intend to contribute to sustainable energy programs around the world.
Beyond engineering, I also study welding at Wake Tech. I intend to learn this trade to help support myself and have found that I genuinely enjoy the craft. It is uniquely challenging and satisfying as only handicrafts such as welding can be.
I love computers too! Prior to pursuing a career in Nuclear Engineering, I worked for six years in managed IT services as a senior IT technician and Microsoft 365 analyst. During that time, I was responsible for designing, deploying, and managing the entire spectrum of IT equipment from end user devices like desktops and printers to infrastructure like servers and routers. I also managed cloud infrastructure such as Microsoft 365 and Mosyle. Before all that, I got my start writing games in ROBLOX and Unity Engine and designing simple websites. Today, I still tinker with Xcode writing mobile apps in my spare time.
When I'm not working or studying, you can find me doing outdoor activities like hiking, bicycling, and kayaking, riding my motorcycle, or curling up to a good book.
Beginning in 2021, I have volunteered with the North Carolina Wing Civil Air Patrol, where I served at the Johnston County Composite Squadron and continue to serve at the Harnett County Composite Squadron, where I've performed logistics, administrative, and emergency services functions. Taskings include organizing squadron events, managing equipment and vehicles, and participating in search and rescue ground teams both as a search technician and as a ground team leader. Currently, I am the squadron logistics officer and deputy emergency services officer. I also serve on the squadron membership committee.
My primary focus in the Civil Air Patrol is emergency services. Working in ground teams are where I thrive, though I do also have mission scanner air crew rating. I have participated in several real world searches and was part of the search credited with saving a life in 2023. The volunteers of the Civil Air Patrol are some of the most talented, wonderful people I have had the privilege of working with, and their cadet program for children ages 12-18 has provided children of all backgrounds with opportunities participate in amazing leadership, aerospace, search and rescue, disaster relief, and STEM programs. The Civil Air Patrol's chartered mission is to mentor the next generation exceptional leaders serving in their communities, governments, and in aerospace, and provides opportunities for children that can be found nowhere else. I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization.
As part of the English 112 class at Wake Tech, the class was asked in week 11 to make a professional resume in Microsoft Word. We were asked to incorporate any relevant details just as we would in a real resume to demonstrate our persuasive writing skills in a professional setting. You can view the resume I wrote for the class in the embed to the left, or use this link to view in Google Docs.
